Volunteering with Renewal House

Client-based and Community-based positions:

Renewal House volunteers provide crucial, life-saving services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and educate the public in meaningful ways.

There are two categories of volunteers at: Client Advocates and Community Advocates.

Client Advocates:

As a Client Advocate, you will assist Renewal House staff with providing services to our clients, including:

  • Transportation to and from important appointments
  • Legal Accompaniment
  • Emotional Support
  • Advocating for Resources
  • Hospital Accompaniment
  • Childcare
  • Screening for Safe Housing
  • Providing Office Coverage by answering the hotline, greeting clients, organizing printed materials and files, and other basic office procedures and projects

Because client-based volunteers work directly with our clients, a vulnerable population that we often see in crisis situations, there is a thorough 30-hour New Advocate Training program required to prepare you for your role.

Client Advocate Requirements:

1.       Complete the online volunteer application.

2.       The Volunteer Coordinator will be in contact with you to set up an interview.

3.       All new volunteers must attend the next New Advocate Training session and complete additional program-specific training and observations before they start volunteering.

Community Advocates:

Community Advocates support Renewal House both behind the scenes and in front of the community, providing services such as:

  • Participating in local events, such as health fairs and educational sessions
  • Organizing Fundraising Drives
  • Donation Management and Support
  • Educational Presentation prep and implementation
  • Material Distribution in the Community

Community Advocate Requirements:

1.       Complete the online volunteer application.

2.       The Volunteer Coordinator will be in contact with you to set up an interview.

3.       If accepted as a volunteer, the Volunteer Coordinator will arrange one-on-one training to prepare you for your role.
